Everything happens for a reason!

Don’t you love when someone says this phrase flippantly without much thought. I know we’ve all thought it and said it to friends with meaning and sincerity. “Everything happens for a reason”

Honestly, much of life and the majority of the bad things that happen in our life we will never understand.

I had a good friend recently lose his wife at a young age of 57. I can’t imagine walking in his shoes even for a moment and can’t understand what he is going through. It doesn’t make sense. It probably never will to us here on earth.

When we read Philippians 1:12-14 it says-

“Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1:12-14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Every day we wake up and have a choice.  What are we going to think about first.  What is our mindset going to be like for the day?

We are all human and have negative thoughts come in our mind all the time.  We have a choice if we are going to listen to our negative self talk or not.  What we feed our mind with absolutely affects our behavior and how we are going to act and speak.

Hebrews 12:2 reminds us to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith”.

We are to gaze on Christ and try moment by moment to ask ourselves, “what would Jesus think about this” or “how does this look to Jesus”?

It re-focuses us on what’s important and what’s eternal.  It re-aligns our heart and gets us centered back to our walk with God.  We have to be intentional about it.  Our natural thoughts are to waver and go the opposite direction.  We have to pray and ask God for help moment by moment.  It’s a battle we all face!

I want to encourage you today to focus on Christ and his goodness.  Remember all that he has done for you in your life and believe by faith that he’s not done with you yet!

Waiting on the Lord

Nobody likes to wait…..on anything, anybody, anytime!

In our instant download culture we live in, we are conditioned to get it right here, right now.  So why is it that when God doesn’t give us what we are looking for, we begin to doubt?  Thats a fair question that we all battle with.

We begin to think that when we have to wait, the answer must be ‘No’.  Its easy to begin to think that way, after all we have not ‘seen’ anything happen.  We begin to make alternate plans since we are not seeing our prayer answered.

Could it be that God is doing a work in your heart while you are waiting?  Could it be that he is testing your faith in Him and his timing?  Maybe you are not ready for what He wants to do yet and He needs to purify you.  Purifying and changing someone from the inside out takes time.  There could be some motives he wants to purify, some heart issues that need to be worked out before he brings about his plan.  Seeking God in his Word, talking to him every day and spending time with those that are going after Jesus helps unfold his plan and his timing…….so we wait…….

Lamentations 3:25-26 says “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord”

We serve a great God and He knows whats best for his children, just like a parent knows whats best for their son or daughter.  Its when we surrender to him our mindset and actions that we find true peace!
